DFA MOTOR VEHICLE ADMINISTRATOR

The Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) Motor Vehicle Administrator is responsible for developing the policies and procedures for the Office of Motor Vehicles and directing the direct services, international registration plan, motor vehicle systems support and registration, and titling functions. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Oversees and directs the activities of the Office of Motor Vehicle which includes, Direct Services, Registration and Titles, International Registration Plan, and Motor Vehicle Systems Support; with a total staff of 175. Determines goals and objectives for each Motor Vehicle Section and the sections management personnel; approves the development of new procedures or processes as needed, and revises existing procedures and processes to comply with changes in state and federal law. Monitors budgetary needs and expenditures for all motor vehicle operations. Assists the Assistant Commissioners of Revenue and Revenue Legal Counsel in any technical issues relating to motor vehicle statutes. Supervises subordinates including interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating performance, and terminating personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of state budgetary procedures. Knowledge of computer applications. Ability to supervise a subordinate professional and administrative support staff. Ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds, both in written and verbal form. Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks. Ability to resolve problems in a fair and impartial manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration; plus seven years of related experience in the automobile or trucking industry; including three years of experience supervising subordinate management, supervisory, professional, and/or support staff. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
