CERTIFIED MASTERS DEGREE LIBRARIAN
The Certified Masters Degree Librarian is responsible for coordinating activities of a library and for ensuring quality control and appropriateness of program, coordinating special projects, and preparing applicable reports. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:
Develops continuing education opportunities for public and school librarians. Administers the State’s role in development, distribution, and promotion of statewide summer library program. Organizes and administers children’s choice book awards for the state. Represents library on various boards and committees, maintaining working relationships with outside organizations. Serves as a member of special library programs. Writes, administers, and evaluates grants for program funding. Coordinates workshops by planning the program, writing manuals, and organizing events, presentations, and other activities. Develops surveys and questionnaires and publishes the results. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of the functions and operations of a school library. Knowledge of specific literature (e.g. contemporary, children’s). Ability to communicate with the public. Ability to supervise employees, administer work plans, and evaluate progress. Some positions may require the ability to be proficient in American Sign Language.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education of a master’s degree in library science, education, or a related field, plus four years of professional level library experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
