BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE SPECIALIST

The Business Intelligence Specialist is responsible for providing general support in the data integration related activities throughout the organization. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency / institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Performs the data modeling design process, according to customized specifications and reporting requirements. Implements and supports innovative system applications and enhancements for existing system applications. Develops and maintains programs using software development tools in an assortment of programming environments. Ensures that the use of business intelligence applications enhances decision making capabilities. Supports users in the implementation and day-to-day use of administrative systems database applications, including user training and workflow recommendations. Provides technical support to supplementary programming team members. Ensures thorough documentation for assigned applications. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of advanced data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling. Ability to troubleshoot, and eventually solve, complex problems and then translate the ascertained solutions into their applications and systems. Ability to demonstrate organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to manage multiple priorities.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelors degree in information technology, computer science, computer systems engineering, or a related area; plus two years of experience in designing and / or implementing data warehouse and relational database applications. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
