BROADCAST PRODUCTION SPECIALIST

The Broadcast Production Specialist is responsible for operating recording equipment for studio productions, editing and duplicating audio and video recordings, and repairing broadcast equipment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Coordinates the set-up, testing and placement of broadcast production equipment needed to conduct studio productions and during remote broadcasts. Operates recording equipment during studio productions and remote broadcasts, analyzes problems, and evaluates quality of recordings. Coordinates mixing, dubbing, splicing and editing of tape recordings before submitting final tape production for broadcast and maintains tape files. Maintains and repairs broadcast production equipment and transmitter by troubleshooting, testing, adjusting, and replacing worn out equipment. Prepares specifications for equipment purchases, recommends purchases to supervisor, and maintains supply inventory. Records transmitter readings, makes required log entries, and assists students in broadcast station operations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of Federal Communication Commission (FCC) rules and regulations relating to broadcasting Knowledge of broadcast station operations and procedures. Knowledge of tape editing and splicing techniques and procedures. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of broadcast equipment. Ability to maintain and repair broadcast transmission equipment. Ability to maintain logs and tape files. Skill in the use of tools and test equipment used in broadcast transmission and studio equipment maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of specialized training in electronics technology, broadcast production, or related field; plus three years of experience in the operation and repair of broadcast equipment or related area. Must possess appropriate FCC operators permit. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
