ASP/CACD INVESTIGATOR

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) / Crimes Against Children Division (CACD) Investigator is responsible for the investigation of allegations of child abuse. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Occasional twenty-four (24) hour emergency on-call duty & frequent in-state travel is required.

Typical Functions:

Investigates allegations of child abuse while working in conjunction with state and/or local law enforcement investigators, prosecuting attorney’s offices, employees of the Arkansas Department of Human Services, agency policies and protocols, and interagency agreements. Conducts interviews, may assist in criminal investigation, and enters information into the Children’s Reporting and Information System (CHRIS). Compiles documentation, reports, and transcripts of all allegations of child abuse. Presents factual testimony in administrative hearings, juvenile proceedings, and criminal proceedings. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of investigations in general. Knowledge of child abuse issues and state and federal laws and regulations. Knowledge of the social issues in child maltreatment investigation. Ability to understand and prepare written and oral information. Ability to apply laws, regulations, and protocols to investigative determinations. Ability to read and interpret federal rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, criminology and or five years of experiencein law enforcement, including two years in criminal investigation. Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.

Required Certificates:

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
