Special Job Requirements:

Occasional twenty-four (24) hour emergency on-call duty is required.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a professional and administrative support staff by interviewing applicants, making hire or termination recommendations, training, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluation the performance of incumbents. Assigns and assists in investigations of staff, resolves work related issues while ensuring compliance with state and federal law, agency policies, and interagency agreements. Establishes goals and objectives, develops policies and procedures, evaluates program effectiveness and compliance, monitors corrective action, and implements and interprets laws and regulations. Reviews and approves investigative and activity reports. Provides technical assistance regarding child welfare regulations, laws, and protocols regarding child abuse issues. Coordinates with attorneys, general public, law enforcement entities, elected officials, and other entities as necessary. Performs other duties as or assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations concerning child abuse. Knowledge of the application of criminal law to investigative findings. Knowledge of the principles and practices of investigations. Knowledge of the social issues in child maltreatment investigation. Ability to apply laws, regulations, and protocols in the evaluation and monitoring of employees’ work product. Ability to plan, oversee, and evaluate the work of subordinates. Ability to understand and prepare written and oral information.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education of a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, criminology, or related field; plus three years of experience in child welfare programs; or seven years law enforcement experience, including four years in investigation of crimes against children. Must possess a valid Arkansas Driver’s License. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
