ASP AFIS COORDINATOR

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) Coordinator is responsible for supervising the activities of the AFIS unit and for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of non-criminal justice background checks. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a large administrative and professional staff by interviewing, recommending for hire, training, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Coordinates electronic information transmission to Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) databases. Reviews data entry accuracy and completeness, and corrects errors, as needed. Reviews expungement orders regarding the background checks for adherence to proper protocol. Enters information regarding FBI responses and rejections. Researches and compiles information and statistics for various required reports. Assists the public regarding background check problems, comparison, and incorrect information, and researches and resolves problems. Troubleshoots system problems and recommends corrective action. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of data entry methodology and requirements. Knowledge of fingerprinting and classification methodology. Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques. Ability to train and oversee the work of others. Ability to take, analyze, and classify fingerprints. Ability to research, analyze, and write routine reports, and correspondence. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business manuals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus five years of experience in the field of criminal history and records management, including two years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.

Required Certificates:

Must be certified by ACIC in terminal operation. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED F
