ASBMT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Arkansas State Board of Massage Therapy (ASBMT) Executive Director is responsible for overseeing functions of the Massage Therapy Board. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises an administrative support and inspection staff by interviewing and recommending for hire, assigning and reviewing work, training new employees, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Implements and evaluates programs and activities to ensure the board functions in a manner consistent with accreditation standards. Develops and recommends new and revised policies and procedures to respond to changes in program needs, objectives, and priorities, and to improve program’s effectiveness. Monitors budgets and expenditures, provides approvals for transactions based on available budget and sponsoring agency restrictions, and monitors internal controls, procedures, and compliance issues for grants and/or contracts. Reviews, analyzes, and prepares reports designed to reflect aspects of the agency fiscal status, prepares special and periodic reports for use in planning by the Board, and compiles budgetary reports for fiscal requirements to Office of Budget, Legislative Council, AASIS, and Board. Provides technical assistance to board, staff, and the general public on regulations and procedures governing board practices and programs that comply with governmental regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of office administration procedures. Knowledge of manual and computer systems. Ability to supervise administrative support and inspection staff engaged in board activities. Ability to analyze financial information and prepare reports. Ability to provide guidance and technical assistance to management, staff, and the general public regarding board rules and policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in finance, business management, or a related area; plus three years of experience in bookkeeping, licensing, or office administration, including one year in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
