AGRI NATURAL RESOURCES PRGM SPECIALIST

The Natural Resource Program Specialist is responsible for environmental program activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Inspects public water supplies, collects proper samples for study, conducts environmental audits, inspections, and investigations for violations of water quality and other regulations. Attends and/or participates in workshops, trainings and meetings with internal, local, and other state agencies, to provide current information and technology updates. Reviews and implements environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies and formal regulations, to ensure regulatory compliance and operations enhancement. Collects data on water use and reviews recommendations for the engineering hydrological and hydro geological staff in the administration of state laws regarding the allocation of water resources. Provides technical assistance to water surveyors and other government agencies regarding public water supplies. Prepares reports and sets up and maintains database to track sampling schedules. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of principles and methods for adequate supply and quality control of water resources. Knowledge of the factors used to determine water treatment methods. Ability to compile and analyze data. Ability to collect samples. Ability to analyze and interpret laws, rules, and regulations related to environmental programs. Ability to prepare reports of inspections, reviews, and investigations containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in a field of environmental or natural science or related field; plus one year of experience in water resources management or related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
