AGRI LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

The Agriculture Laboratory Technician is responsible for setting up procedures and conditions for conducting standard laboratory tests for agriculture research. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Measures and mixes solutions to be used in agricultural research laboratory tests. Obtains samples or specimens such as animal feces, pests, soil, plants, feeds, and fertilizers. Prepares standards, reagents, and equipment for use in the laboratory experiments. Performs various analysis of samples. Collects and reports data as specified and maintains records. Operates and performs minor maintenance on laboratory equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment used in agriculture research. Knowledge of analytical reagents and chemical solutions used in laboratory analysis. Knowledge of analytical laboratory instruments and equipment operation. Ability to perform standard and special agriculture laboratory tests. Ability to prepare test samples. Ability to operate and provide minor maintenance on laboratory equipment used in analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of specialized training or experience in physical or natural science or a related field.
