AETN PROFESSIONAL RELATIONS DIRECTOR

The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) Professional Relations Director is responsible for overseeing the Government and Community Relations Division within the agency. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Deliberates with education related government agencies, private education related organizations, and the general public for information exchange and explanation of program objectives; identifies problematic areas and formulates practical solutions. Examines existing educational development alternatives for their agency applicability determination and recommends a select few to the AETN Executive Director. Functions as liaison between the legislative personnel and the agency concerning fundamental legislation assisting with agency operations. Supervises administrative support personnel by selection and regulation. Serves as agency liaison with both commissioners and the Arkansas federal delegation. Generates proposals for the AETN Executive Director and program managers. Confers with other agency directors in an attempt to develop their agency initiatives. Advises the AETN Executive Director on a variety of task assignments. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of public education programs through the Arkansas Department of Education. Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing public school standards. Knowledge of planning, research, and analysis techniques. Knowledge of budgeting, procurement, accounting, and human resources laws, rules, polices, and procedures. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Ability to communicate throughout agency divisions concerning educational objectives. Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of existing departmental programs and operations. Ability to evaluate problematic areas and develop practical solutions. Ability to plan, assign, and review the work of subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, communication, education, or a related field; plus five years of experience in business administration, public broadcasting, or a related area, including two years in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
