ADPT HISTORY COMMISSION DIRECTOR

Known as the State Historian, this position provides leadership in state and local history and administers the State Archives. Answers to a Governor-appointed commission, has charge over 25 professional and support staff, and administers an operating budget in excess of $1.7 million. Must demonstrate extensive knowledge of Arkansas history, archival management principles, modern archival/curatorial processes, and experience in both fiscal management and with supervising professional staff. Demonstrated research and writing skills and active involvement in historical and archival organizations at national, state, and/or local levels required. Must relate well to and serve the public and will liaise with other archival and state agencies and report to state legislature. Government experience helpful but not required.

Requires earned doctorate in history from accredited higher education institution, or equivalent as determined by the commission (based upon academic background, demonstrated written and oral presentation ability, and proven interest in, knowledge of, and experience in the field). Membership in Academy of Certified Archivists (CA) helpful but not required.
