ADPT ARCHIVAL MICROPHOTO SUPV

The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism (ADPT) Archival Microphotographer Supervisor is responsible for supervising a technical staff, directing archival section activities, maintaining equipment, processing microfilm, reviewing microfilm for quality control, duplicating microfilm, and operating microphotography equipment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Develops policies and procedures for the preservation microfilming of archival documents and materials. Develops short and long range plans to ensure production levels and timeframes are met, monitors progress and quality of work, and compiles and maintains production and inventory reports. Oversees the complete archival microphotography preservation process, including preparatory activities, such as basic repair of historical documents, cleaning documents, flattening documents, using standard conservation methods and tools, verifying images, and documenting materials filmed. Maintains microfilm and duplication equipment by cleaning, adjusting, and repairing, contacting vendors for service, ordering film, chemicals, parts, and other supplies, and evaluates equipment effectiveness and recommends replacement. Implements safety and security procedures for irreplaceable documents and materials stored in the archival section, coordinates handling of borrowed archival collections, and returns collections to lenders or patrons. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of archival conservation/preservation techniques and practices. Knowledge of microphotography equipment operation and maintenance. Ability to operate and maintain microfilm cameras, processors, duplicators, and related equipment. Ability to develop and process microfilm for long-term preservation. Ability to create inventory of microfilm and related files. Ability to compile information and prepare reports. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal educational equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of experience in archival microphotography or related field, including one year in a leadership capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
