ADPHT CONSULTANT

The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism (ADPT) Consultant is responsible for promoting tourism development and enterprise in Arkansas. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Occasional in and out-of-state travel is required.

Typical Functions:

Promotes the state’s tourism industry by establishing and maintaining relationships with communities, organizations, and government agencies. Serves as consultant to communities and counties on issues pertaining to festival development, group and international travel, and tourism development programs. Assists in seeking, identifying, processing, and fulfilling requests and leads to tourism suppliers. Attends tradeshows, domestic and international marketplaces, and regional/national meetings as official department representative. Attends informational sessions to maintain knowledge of current and future issues that relate to group and international tourism efforts. Assists with the development and updating of meeting planner directories and websites. Assists in planning and hosting familiarization tours and statewide conferences. Assists in the administration of statewide grant programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of Arkansas tourism products. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of marketing. Knowledge of the travel and tourism industry. Ability to write promotional materials. Ability to coordinate meetings and lead workshops. Ability to organize and present clear and concise oral and written reports of findings and recommendations. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in tourism, public relations, marketing, general business, or a related field; plus two years of experience in the travel or tourism industry or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
