ADH PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATOR SUPERVISOR

The Public Health Educator Supervisor is responsible for developing health education projects, promoting health education awareness among schools, civic groups, and communities, and training health educators. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a small professional staff, including interviewing, recommending for hire, time keeping, devising and monitoring daily work assignments, and evaluating performance. Develops, organizes, and conducts health education programs, including training school nurses or other school personnel in health related matters, designing curriculum to be taught, and scheduling the agenda. Informs school and civic groups through lectures and presentations on health related topics, such as AIDS, drug/alcohol prevention, and suicide prevention. Distributes training aids, equipment, or purchased materials to health educators, school nurses, and teachers. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of health education. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Ability to plan, arrange, and conduct educational programs and service activities. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to research, prepare, and/or explain educational or informational materials and literature. Ability to provide training and instructions. Ability to evaluate data and prepare reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in health education or a related field; plus two years of experience providing health education services, including one year in a leadership capacity.

Required Certificates:

Must be certified or eligible for certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist or a Certified Professional Health Educator by the Board of Health Education in accordance with ACA 17-53-206.
