ADH EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES SUPV

The Emergency Medical Services Supervisor is responsible for developing and administering Emergency Medical Technician certification, ambulance service licensure, and monitoring the Emergency Medical Services Communication Plan. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel in the development and administration of written and practical skills examinations and inspections and investigations of ambulances, units, and resource centers for compliance with regulations and federal guidelines. Responds to inquiries challenging test score errors and approves re-testing of applicants. Develops emergency medical training programs for ambulance and rescue personnel and participates in field in-service training sessions with other team members, including the American Heart Association. Monitors the EMS Communications plan and ensures that hospital radio licenses are maintained current with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Reviews inspection and complaint investigation records for solutions to problems and the monitoring of program’s effectiveness and conducts follow-up investigations. Requisitions supplies and materials and monitors divisional expenditures for budget control. Provides assistance in the preparation of annual divisional budget figures. Interviews and selects applicants to fill vacant Emergency Medical Services Specialist positions, evaluates performance, and initiates disciplinary action according to policy. Serves as liaison to other professional and governmental organizations for the establishment of national training certification standards. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of emergency medical services systems. Knowledge of emergency disaster program design and development. Knowledge of fiscal management. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to plan, develop, and conduct programs and training classes on emergency medical services systems. Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information and reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in biology, psychology, or related field; plus two years of experience in emergency medical services or a related field. Must be Certified by the Department of Health as an Emergency Medical Technician – Ambulance Level. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
