ADH DIRECTOR OF COSMETOLOGY BOARD

The Director of the Cosmetology Board is responsible for the administration of all office and inspection activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises small administrative support and inspection staff by interviewing and hiring applicants, training employees, assigning and reviewing work, evaluating the performance of staff, and resolving conflicts. Develops and administers state licensing test and investigative programs. Develops, implements, and monitors the board’s budget, monitors and approves expenditures, coordinates the purchasing and inventory activities for the board, and prepares related reports. Evaluates existing programs by gathering pertinent information by reviewing files, researching policy, directives, and regulations, conducting surveys and interviews, and contacting agencies in other states concerning their programs. Enforces statewide standards concerning professional licensing and discipline. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of agency applicable laws and regulations. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of organizational and systems analysis. Ability to compose and edit correspondence, reports and other documents. Ability to coordinate, instruct and review the work of others. Ability to interpret and apply state and federal laws and regulations governing specialized area of work. Ability to plan and execute systems and perform organizational analysis and feasibility studies. Ability to plan and organize comprehensive reports of board findings and develop documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in public administration, general business, or related field and five years of work-related experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
