Conducts routine inspections of cosmetology establishments, schools, and wig shops by checking licenses and permits, facilities, and equipment for compliance with the rules and regulations governing sanitation and sterilization practices. Records deficiencies on violation report form, discusses findings with management, and sets up compliance date if needed. Collects evidence when violations are detected by thoroughly examining all aspects of the violations and documenting all discussions and activities during the investigation to be used as documentary evidence in disciplinary proceedings. Provides testimony as required. Conducts building inspection of schools by measuring floor space and calculating square footage to determine if school has the required floor space needs. Examines the plumbing, ventilation, and lighting to determine suitability for its intended space. Audits curriculum to determine compliance with rules and regulations. Approves or disapproves new schools for licensure based on results of inspection. Conducts field investigations after receiving complaints on alleged violations. Examines complaint file and new establishment file to coordinate field investigations and new facilities inspections within routine weekly schedule. Performs other duties as assigned.
