ADH CENTER DIR-LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) Center Director â€Â“ Local Public Health is responsible for supervising five regional directors for local health unit operations. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Develops policies, procedures, and operational standards for the Center for Local Public Health. Directs the activities of a large professional, technical, and administrative support staff through lower-level supervisors including reviewing performance evaluations and evaluating the performance of immediate subordinates, and reviewing and approving/disapproving a variety of actions/policies/procedures recommended by subordinates. Provides input in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the agency by coordinating with subordinates in the preparation of plans. Develops plans, programs, and procedures to accomplish agency goals and to comply with laws and regulations. Oversees Center’s budget proposals. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of state budgetary, human resources, and purchasing procedures. Knowledge of public health program planning and implementation methods and techniques. Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and grants. Knowledge of computer data bases and programs. Ability to supervise a subordinate professional and administrative support staff. Ability to plan, coordinate and evaluate effectiveness of medical care services and operations. Ability to provide technical assistance and information to health care providers and the public. Ability to direct programs and operations through subordinate managers.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in public health; plus eight years of progressively more responsible experience in local public health operations, including four years in a professional managerial capacity.
