ADH ABSLPA DIRECTOR

The Arkansas Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (ABSLPA) Director is responsible for planning and directing the agency's operational and administrative activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Develops and establishes short and long term program and financial goals and objectives and administers and evaluates project assignments and budgetary activities. Plans, conducts, and makes referrals for clients to treatment programs. Counsels and instructs parents and clients concerning test procedures, results, behavior patterns, therapy, financial assistance, availability of hearing devices and techniques to improve hearing impairment including sign language or lip reading. Refers clients to additional medical, financial assistance, or educational resource programs if needed. Monitors infant and early hearing detection program activities. Provides hospitals and physicians with monthly status reports. Compiles data and prepares reports for use in grants administration activities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of testing and diagnostic procedures, techniques, and equipment used rehabilitation. Knowledge of the role of amplification auditory training and speech reading in rehabilitation. Knowledge of the principles and practices of financial management. Ability to develop and monitor audiological assessment programs. Ability to develop and monitor individual client programs and review recommendations for program modifications. Ability to counsel and instruct clients and families on auditory needs, equipment usage, and test results. Ability to prepare written communications and financial data and reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, business administration, business management or a related field; plus three years of experience in rehabilitation program operations and administration.
