ADE STATE NETWORK ENGINEER

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) State Network Engineer is responsible for operating as the lead security analyst for the agency's information systems and applications. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Creates user roles and user groups within their business intelligence and performance management software for agency personnel and public school districts. Facilitates resolution of problem areas with all levels of users through the Department of Information Services’ (DIS) service desk facility. Maintains UNIX Account Manager security as well as Active Directory Account Manager security in conjunction with Single Sign-On. Implements authentication and authorization for district and state level users for the Department of Education’s data systems. Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation for the current data systems security process. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of the Department of Education’s data systems including their Statewide Information System, Data Warehouse, Student GPS Dashboards, Student Management System, and Finance Management System. Knowledge of universal methods for maintaining and altering software applications. Knowledge of the Arkansas Public School Computer Network (APSCN). Knowledge of client and server applications development processes. Knowledge of local area network and wide area network systems. Knowledge of Microsoft NT / 2003 / 2008 Server Management. Knowledge of object oriented programming languages. Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory. Knowledge of Information Technology protection standards, guidelines, and applied procedures. Ability to tailor software applications for public school districts throughout the state. Ability to identify complex problems and subsequently develop practical solutions. Ability to identify security breaches and notify appropriate personnel. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information science, applied mathematics, or a related field; plus four years of experience in network systems administration or a related field.
