ADE SPECIAL ADVISOR

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Special Advisor is responsible for providing curriculum, assessment and professional development recommendations to the Assistant Commissioners Office of Learning Services. State and federal laws and agency policy govern this position.

Special Job Requirements:

Occasional in-state/overnight travel may be required.

Typical Functions:

Supervises and leads multiple units within Learning Services; works directly with the Assistant Commissioner of Learning Services to provide support and direction for the Learning Services division and collaborates with educational partners to further the mission and vision of the agency. Stays informed with national research in various areas of education. Stays informed of educational trends and policies across the nation. Prepares written and oral reports on various education issues. Communicates with other experts in the educational arena Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of state and federal education laws with an emphasis special education, curriculum and professional development. Knowledge of organizational management with an emphasis in strategic planning and execution. Knowledge of state and federal finance and human resources management laws, rules and regulations. Ability to conduct research and present information and recommendations for implementation. Ability to interpret and analyze legislation. Ability to perform statistical analysis. Ability to direct, organize, and manage people in the planning and execution of strategies to meet agency needs. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written format. Ability to coordinate activities and ideas with other education partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelors degree in education; plus four years of progressively more responsible experience with special education curriculum and professional development, including four years in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW
