ADE ASST DIR ACADEMIC FACILITIES

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Assistant Director of Academic Facilities is responsible for coordinating operations of academic facilities and for generating procedures to implement legislation pertaining to public school academic facilities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Assists division director with matters pertaining to academic facilities operational activities. Represents division by attending legislative meetings and answering questions as necessary. Coordinates academic facility funding program requirements with preferred school districts. Develops guidelines for academic facilities programs partially by interpreting the technical intent of existing state laws pertaining to facility program execution within the department. Coordinates all academic facilities operational activities within the division by organizing assignments for facility project managerial personnel and senior project administrative personnel, arranging requisite technical support, and mentoring subordinate personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of the executive and legislative processes. Knowledge of techniques for organizational management and public administration. Knowledge of techniques for general planning, design, construction, and testing practices. Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to fiscal management, budget development and maintenance, asset management, and human resource management. Ability to analyze data, plan outcomes, and determine solutions. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others. Ability to plan and direct the work of subordinate supervisory personnel. Ability to interpret and then apply laws for policy development or revision. Ability to organize, prepare, and present information to agency personnel, the legislative and executive branches, vendors, the press, and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in architecture, construction science, business administration or a related field; plus eight years of progressively more responsible experience in school construction or facilities management, including four years in a professional managerial capacity.
