ADC INMATE TRANSPORTATION COORD

The Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) Inmate Transportation Coordinator is responsible for supervising and coordinating transportation of inmates to and from correctional units, courts, hospitals, physician offices, or other assigned areas. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policies and procedures.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a medium staff of security personnel by interviewing applicants and recommending for hire, providing training, making work assignments, approving leave, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Coordinates transportation of inmates to and from other units, federal courts, medical appointments and other assigned designations. Updates security changes and work schedules to ensure accurate coverage for transportation of inmates. Maintains records on inmate movements and compiles reports of transportation activities and vehicle maintenance. Participates in apprehension of escapees, provides security to authorized groups visiting the unit, and authorizes issuance of weapons, ammunition, and vehicles. Investigates incidents by interviewing officers and inmates to obtain information regarding security aspects of transportation. Attends and conducts various meetings, including staff meetings and briefings, with the next work shift. Develops standard operating procedures, in accordance with agency policies governing transportation, and prepares and maintains budget within the transportation division. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of correctional department policies and procedures. Knowledge of correctional security and public safety methods and techniques. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of lower-level supervisors and/or subordinates. Ability to update security procedures and processes. Ability to supervise and monitor inmates’ activities and to coordinate their transportation. Ability to perform correctional security and public safety activities. Ability to evaluate a situation and adopt a course of action. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information and reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma and possession of a valid Arkansas driver’s license; plus four years of experience in correctional security or law enforcement, including one year in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
