ADC ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

The Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) Assistant Director is responsible for directing the planning, budgeting and logistical support for construction projects for the Department of Correction. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises subordinates including interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating performance, and terminating personnel. Prepares biennium budgets for all nineteen prison units and prepares capital improvements for entire agency. Works with architects and engineers in design, job inspections, and project submittals. Formulates and approves bid packages for the procurement of materials needed to build and maintain correctional facilities. Insures all of the correctional facilities continue to meet the American Correctional Associations standards. Continues the progressive inmate labor program. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge in the fields and operations of water, wastewater, safety, construction, maintenance operations, electrical plumbing, boiler and power plant operations, human resource issues. Knowledge of correctional practices and procedures. Ability to supervise a subordinate professional and administrative support staff. Ability to analyze financial information and prepare reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a master’s degree in science construction management; plus seven years of experience in construction, including five years in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
