ACOM DWS WORKFORCE INVEST REG ADVISOR

The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) Unit Supervisor is responsible for the processing of unemployment insurance and federal program claims or appeals. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises technical and administrative support staff by interviewing, recommending for hire/terminations, training, assigning and reviewing work, counseling, and evaluating work performance of incumbents. Supervises the preparation and processing of claims or appeals by reviewing documentation for accuracy and completeness. Coordinates the work of unit staff by prioritizing, scheduling, and assigning work associated with claims or appeals. Monitors timeliness of processing by ensuring that claims or appeals meet established processing timeframes. Trains staff in processing procedures in accordance with federal and state regulations and agency policy and procedures. Solves processing problems by contacting other DWS personnel, states, or claimants in order to obtain information. Assists staff in the processing of claims or appeals. Completes reports on claims or appeals processing of work unit. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures pertaining to assigned unit of DWS. Knowledge of accounting and general office management. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to understand and prepare oral and written information and material including documents, reports, records, and correspondence. Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in claim and appeal processing.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma plus three years of experience in general office, accounting, or a related field, including one year of experience in employment security operations. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
