ACOM DWS PROGRAM SUPERVISOR

The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) Program Supervisor is responsible for managing DWS programs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Manages all local office DWS program operations by setting work priorities, reviewing work of staff, acting as lead resource person for the assigned programs and ensuring programs are administered in a timely manner. Supervises office staff operations, and participates in the selection of staff. Interprets and applies United States Department of Labor and Arkansas laws, regulations and policies affecting the programs. Trains staff concerning changes in DWS policies and services. Maintains employer relations in the community by speaking to employers and organizations and serving on boards of local community action agencies, advisory committees, chambers of commerce, and workforce boards. Reviews office program operations for delivery of services that ensure proper program enrollments and suitable outcomes. Compiles reports, correspondence, and records regarding program operations. Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of United States Department of Labor statutes and regulations and Arkansas laws, rules, and regulations governing DWS programs and services. Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing employment security programs. Knowledge of skills assessment techniques. Knowledge of workforce development principles and practices. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Ability to interpret state and federal laws and regulations governing employment security programs. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to make public presentations. Ability to communicate information in written form regarding employment security program policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in business management, general business, or related field, plus two years of experience in the programs being supervised or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
