The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) Assistant Director of Information and Technology is responsible for the management of the information and technology division. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Directs the activities of a professional, technical, and administrative support staff through lower-level supervisors including reviewing performance evaluations and evaluating the performance of immediate subordinates, and reviewing and approving/disapproving a variety of actions/policies/procedures recommended by subordinates. Develops plans, programs, and procedures to accomplish agency administrative goals and to comply with laws and regulations. Interprets rules and regulations and directs the activities of the agency field staff. Coordinates activities across divisional lines within the agency to ensure success of agency programs and projects. Researches and prepares reports of agency programs and presents to agency director, board, and/or public officials. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of the agency’s laws and regulations. Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resource and organizational and financial management. Ability to establish comprehensive organizational systems and programs and to direct operations through subordinate managers. Ability to assist in monitoring and evaluating agency operations. Ability to interpret laws and regulations and develop applicable policies and procedures. Ability to prepare and present information verbally and in writing. Ability to supervise a subordinate professional and administrative support staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field; plus six years of progressively more responsible experience in the information technology field, including three years in a professional managerial capacity.
