ACOM AEDC SMALL/MINORITY BUSINESS DIR

The Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) Small/Minority Business Director is responsible for developing and promoting small and minority businesses in Arkansas. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Frequent in-state and out-of-state travel is required.

Typical Functions:

Directs the activities of a small professional staff through lower-level supervisors, including approving hire recommendations, reviewing performance evaluations, evaluating the performance of immediate subordinates, and reviewing and approving/disapproving a variety of actions/policies/procedures recommended by subordinates. Assists small or minority business in planning to start or expand a business in Arkansas. Provides technical assistance, such as marketing plans, financing, and product or service development to small or minority owned businesses. Recommends business partners who can furnish other types of information to meet small or minority business needs. Encourages business participation in public and private sector procurement opportunities. Provides advice to small or minority businesses in bid information and preparation. Provides advice in securing business loans. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership, and coordination of people and resources. Knowledge of business loan applications and approvals. Knowledge of state procurement procedures. Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented orally or in written form. Ability to communicate information and ideas orally and in writing. Ability to work with diverse groups.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal educational equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, management, or a related field; plus six years of experience in business development, including three years in a supervisory capacity.

Required Certificates:

Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
