ACOM AEDC DIR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) Director of Community Development is responsible for preparing communities for different types of business opportunities, and facilitating community development efforts throughout the state. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Assigns, supervises, and reviews the activities of professional staff. Provides advice and consultation services on economic relationships to businesses, public and private agencies, and other employers. Provides Arkansas communities the opportunity for economic growth and community development. Provides a method to determine a community’s desired direction and assists in developing a plan to achieve essential goals. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with local and municipal government officials and media representatives. Evaluates advertising and promotion programs for compatibility with the community’s public relations efforts. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices. Knowledge of financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of laws, codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules. Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented orally or in written form. Ability to communicate information and ideas orally and in writing. Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, political science, or a related field; plus three years of experience working in an economic environment, including one year in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
