ACOM AEDC ASST DIR OF STEM EDUCATION

The Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) Assistant Director of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education is responsible for the daily activities of Arkansas STEM Works, an initiative of the Governor's Workforce Cabinet to improve science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education statewide. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Coordinates Arkansas STEM Works activities across the Arkansas Departments of Education, Career Education, Higher Education, Workforce Services, and Science and Technology Authority. Oversees the implementation of STEM Works components, including New Tech Network, Project Lead The Way, EAST Core, and UTeach. Communicates with agency directors, program staff, and STEM Works partners nationally and statewide to ensure timely completion of implementation and replication tasks. Reviews and reacts to reports regarding barriers to project implementation and receipt of project income receivables. Assists in the development of STEMS Works performance measures. Gathers and analyzes data in preparation of reports to the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet. Communicates orally and in writing with the media, businesses, and funding organizations about STEM Works. Fosters and monitors involvement with state and national organizations concerning the improvement of STEM education at all levels. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of federal and state laws, policy, procedures and regulations regarding advanced educational programs. Knowledge of state government operations and structures. Knowledge of budgetary and fiscal management practices. Knowledge of program operations and services. Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions. Ability to work with a wide range of professionals, a diverse customer base, and the public. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare and present presentations to government officials and other organizations. Ability to prepare, review, and submit proposals and to statistically analyze and interpret data and create appropriate reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in a business or technical discipline or a related field, plus six years of experience in program/project development and management, including three years in a supervisory capacity.
